The theme of this year’s seminar is Vivaldi`s L`Estro Armonico. L`Estro Armonico is an extraordinary example of the richness of Baroque music, taking its name from the idea of using instruments and expressiveness in an extravagant and innovative way for the 18th century. With a similar spirit, we will experiment with improvising in order to approach Baroque music from a different point of view.
After a short introduction of the music and historical improvisation, the concertos in this collection shall be analyzed with respect to Classical theories of Rhetoric.
The roles of each voice and the function of the different solos will be considered, and where possible, some extracts will be identified and used applying our knowledge of improvisation. This will entail reinterpreting, composing and playing together.
L`Estro Armonico was originally written for string instruments. However it is also possible to include in this seminar all instruments. We therefore welcome all wind, brass and continuo players!
