SEEKING a NEW-NAISANCE
At Helicona we are convinced that if you do everything right all the time you have nothing to learn. In reality, MISTAKES often accompany us at every step; if we can make friends with them instead of being afraid, however, they can teach us a lot. In some cases it works very well to learn from those who have already found solutions, but at other times you must necessarily fall to learn how to stand up.
We need BALANCE, not only to stand upright but also in how we learn, between memorising well-researched and practiced models and experiencing and experimenting ourselves. KNOWLEDGE is the result of these two processes throughout history.
If we only learn through shortcuts, aimed solely at producing a final result, we lose out on the EXPERIENCE. Without the opportunity to embed, evaluate and test out knowledge that practical experience provides, the model remains disconnected from the process, producing Form detached from its Content.
Helicona proposes exactly this: a Balance between Physical and Emotional Experiences on the one hand (Content), and the Organization of Knowledge on the other (Form). To achieve this, Helicona uses several disciplines, focusing on Music and in particular Improvisation which, thanks to its super powers, allows you to connect many different areas of the brain simultaneously.
And what about Horses?
As we know, a horse is a formidable teacher: if you are not clear or convincing, a horse does not follow you. What a fantastic opportunity, then, for participants to experience whether their communication is effective through interacting with horses! For example, if a musician is able to move a horse with their music, they can surely also "move" their audience!
Why mix music and horse riding?
Historical treatises from the Renaissance teach us that "It is not possible to be a good horse-rider, if you are not a good musician". Music helps the horse and rider to be regular and follow a rhythm, to calculate the distance, to think and memorize geometry in an abstract way, to achieve harmony and proportion, coordination, synchronisation and grace - exactly as articulated in the Renaissance!
Why, then, not look for a New-(Re)naissance, in which experience with horses is also accompanied by that of dance, theater, and fencing? These disciplines, each routed in different areas of expertise, can help us work on our communication skills, on understanding the right moment to act, on understanding our place in relation to the context, to solve problems with creativity and grace, that is, they help us to develop the famous SOFT SKILLS that, perhaps not surprisingly, are so much sought after in recent years. Helicona, consequently, uses each of these as a springboard to personal development, going beyond the overt skills of each discipline to seek connections and lessons that are widely applicable across different careers, philosophies and daily life. In short, there is something in this method for everyone!
The HELICONA Project is therefore: a Historical, Multidisciplinary, experience, with Improvised Music at the center. With lots of fun!
